DRCLAS Summer Internship Program (SIP)
The DRCLAS Summer Internship Program facilitates the summer placement of Harvard College students in internship sites in: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Peru. These internship opportunities immerse Harvard students in the local culture, context and language of the country, while working and actively contributing to a project defined by a local organization. Students work and live for 8 weeks in the capital city they choose. In the last four years, more than 200 Harvard College students had successfully participated in this program. To enhance the cultural and linguistic experience, students live with local families. A local housing coordinator facilitates home stay opportunities for students.
Student participants receive full support from DRCLAS staff members in Cambridge and in the region, who provide a support network for students to ensure they have a successful experience abroad. Before departure, students attend information sessions in Cambridge, where they learn about each program and the country where they will be living. Once overseas, students participate in an intensive week-long orientation program which helps them
to better understand the culture.
Student volunteers have the opportunity to work with public and private sector organizations depending on their area of interest. Current internship sites include non-profit, public, international and private sector entities.
